Ontario Home Renovation Savings heat pump rebates
See how your existing heating fuel affects the provincial rebate and what must happen before a qualifying installation.
Current program. Participating-contractor pre-approval is required before installation.
Rebates depend on your existing heating fuel
| Primary heating | Cold-climate air-source | Ground-source |
|---|---|---|
| Enbridge natural gas | $500 per qualifying ton Up to $2,000 |
$3,000 |
| Electricity, oil, propane or wood | $1,250 per qualifying ton Up to $7,500 |
$2,000 per ton Up to $12,000 |
| Eligible rented heat pump | $500 per qualifying ton Up to $2,000 |
$3,000 |
Air-source rebates use qualifying rated heating capacity at 8.3°C / 47°F. Nominal equipment tonnage alone does not determine payment. Official rebate amounts.
Check the home and the installation
Owners apply for eligible properties. Natural-gas eligibility requires an active Enbridge residential account; the other listed fuels require connection to Ontario’s electricity grid. New-build occupancy and property-type requirements apply.
The published requirements exclude replacement of an existing space-heating heat pump and include certain independently heated units in duplexes, triplexes and stacked townhomes. Review the exact property with the program administrator. Read the full requirements.

Approval comes before installation
01
Confirm eligibility
Use the official program form and choose a participating HVAC contractor.
02
Obtain pre-approval
Your contractor submits the pre-installation application. Work begins after approval.
03
Complete the claim
After installation, the contractor submits the remaining application and supporting records.
Installations before approval are not eligible. No home energy assessment is required for this heat pump stream. See the official application steps.
Select a qualifying system
The program’s approved equipment, matching, sizing and heat-distribution requirements apply. Centrally ducted and qualifying mini-split systems are addressed in the published requirements; exact models and configurations matter. A hybrid installation does not automatically require the heat pump to meet the entire design heating load without backup.
We review the home and equipment before recommending a system. Ask about heat pump installation, ductless options or all-electric heating. Proper sizing and controls remain important regardless of the rebate.
How Ontario and federal rebates relate
The new National Heat Pump Rebate is a separate, upcoming program. Ottawa intends provincial stacking, but a customer must satisfy both programs. Ontario also restricts duplicate provincial incentives and caps permitted combined funding at supply and installation costs.
We will discuss the available programs for your home. A maximum rebate shown in advertising is not an individual eligibility determination.
Ontario rebate questions
Does every homeowner receive $7,500?
No. The amount depends on the primary heating fuel, qualifying capacity, system and program approval. Gas-heated homes have a different rebate tier.
Can I install first and apply afterward?
No. The Ontario program requires pre-installation approval.
Can I qualify with an existing heat pump?
The published heat pump stream excludes replacement of an existing space-heating heat pump.
Can I use a ductless system?
Qualifying ductless or partially ducted configurations are addressed in the program requirements. Verify model matching, sizing and distribution for your project.
Do I need an energy audit?
No energy assessment is required for this heat pump stream. Other upgrade streams have different rules.
Can I keep my gas furnace?
The provincial requirements allow applicable hybrid configurations. The full equipment-matching and sizing rules must be met. This does not establish federal hybrid eligibility.
